Lead Java Engineer

About the role

You will work on cutting-edge, cross-asset quantitative technology platforms (Front Office & Risk) for a tier-1 investment bank. Built with technologies such as Java and Python, the platform delivers high-performance throughput and powerful analytical capabilities. It spans a wide spectrum of derivative products, delivering advanced analytics through sophisticated algorithmic models to support sales & trading teams as well as risk managers.

The role calls for excellent communication skills and a deep understanding of equity derivatives and/or cross-asset products to collaborate seamlessly with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities 

  • Cooperate with on-site Subject Matter Expert and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable enterprise solutions, while prioritizing and delivering business critical features.
  • Design and optimize high-throughput, multi-threaded solutions for strategic cross-asset market data snaps.
  • Lead integration and performance tuning of both external (e.g., Refinitiv, Bloomberg) and internal systems to deliver a comprehensive market view for intra-day and end-of-day usage.
  • Oversee database migration from MongoDB to PostgreSQL, crafting strategic schemas and queries to meet demanding SLAs.
  • Develop and implement robust data-quality frameworks, including validation, anomaly/outlier detection, reconciliation  and monitoring.

Requirements

  • Extensive enterprise-level Java development experience (JDK 11+ or newer LTS), with in-depth knowledge of JVM internals, memory management, garbage collection, and performance optimization
  • Hands-on expertise with core Java frameworks and libraries, including Spring/Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, and advanced multithreading
  • Strong background in enterprise messaging and data technologies such as JMS, Kafka, Solace, alongside technologies such as Redis and Apache Ignite
  • Practical experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server), covering schema design, indexing, and query tuning for analytics-driven workloads
  • Experience of working in a financial services or capital markets environment, delivering enterprise-grade solutions as part of globally distributed teams
  • Solid understanding of enterprise engineering practices: fault tolerance, scalability, logging, monitoring, telemetry, CI/CD, containerization, and modern toolchains (Git, Maven, Jenkins)
  • Systems and data engineering expertise, including multi-threaded pipelines, large-scale data ingestion, and real-time analytics
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a history of applying practical, battle-tested solutions under real-world constraints
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, excellent client-facing communication skills, passion for innovation, and commitment to high standards in code quality and design
  • Fluency in English 

Huge plus

  • Cloud experience (AWS/Azure)
  • Solid knowledge of front-office capital markets technology, covering pricing, risk, and trading systems, event-driven architectures, and the complete trade lifecycle (both pre- and post-trade flows)
  • Strong understanding of equity derivatives markets, including vol-surface calibration, marking, and VaR processes
  • Expertise in market and reference data solutions, with workflows spanning data snapshots, market definition and construction, storage, and distribution
  • Proven experience in developing frameworks for data validation, anomaly detection, and SLA monitoring dashboards
